Smallmouth Angler is pleased to offer the most comprehensive and biologically based river smallmouth bass schools in North America

Across the country, interest in smallmouth bass fishing continues to increase, as more and more people recognize the exceptional sporting characteristics of the "finest fish in freshwater." However, many fly fishers still have a very limited understanding of the smallmouth's habits and biology, which limits their angling success. And many people don't have a good grasp of the best fly fishing techniques for the species.

Special Schools

In these special limited-enrollment schools, anglers can acquire years of stream smallmouth bass experience in a single day. No matter if you're new to smallmouth or an experienced angler looking to refine your skills, one of these schools is right for you.

On-the-Water Location

Instruction is given on the beautiful Root River watershed in the scenic bluff country of southeast Minnesota. This area has long been noted for its prime trout water. But a more closely held secret are its many miles of productive limestone smallmouth bass streams. These waters, where you will receive instruction, are very similar to other Midwestern streams, so the skills you acquire can be easily applied to your home waters.

Top Teachers

After 18 years of teaching hundreds of individuals, Tim Holschlag, the primary instructor, continues to offer students his boundless and enthusiastic knowledge of smallmouth bass.

Assistant Instructor Dan Johnson also brings decades of expertise to the schools, and has a friendly and clear teaching style.

"I just want to thank you again for the great fishing school, and a great trip down the Root River the next day. Ed and I both had a lot of fun catching smallies with you.
You did a great job of keeping us on the fish and continuing the education from the previous day's class. Truly one of my best fishing experiences!"-- Matt Mumford
